Located in the heart of Napa Valley's Stags Leap District, California's Pine Ridge Vineyards was founded in 1978 and is part of the Crimson Wine Group, which also includes Seven Hills, Segheso, Chamisal, and other brands. Today, the estate owns approximately 160 acres of vineyards (including 42 acres in the Stags Leap District) spread across Oakville, Rutherford, Howell Mountain, and Carneros. Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc Viognier is an original blend of mostly Chenin Blanc, produced by the winery for over 25 years and initially conceived as an experiment. Its success with both the public and critics has made it one of Pine Ridge Vineyards' most beloved wines, thanks in part to its freshness and versatility with food. The Chenin grapes come from Clarksburg, while the Viognier is sourced from Lodi. After an early harvest and fermentation in stainless steel, the wine rests in stainless steel before bottling. The result is a lively and expressive wine with intense aromas of melon, lime, and kiwi, followed by hints of honeysuckle, jasmine, and other white flowers. Delicious exotic and citrus notes are also evident on the palate. It is lean, balanced, and refreshing, with a good structure derived from the Chenin Blanc and a long finish that recalls delicate notes of sweetness. It is excellent as an aperitif, with Asian cuisine, and with Chicken Caesar salad.

L'Ecole No. 41 Yakima Valley Chenin Blanc 2024 L'Ecole No. 41 Yakima Valley Chenin Blanc 2024 23.08 GBP Drink it now or cellar for up to 10 years. No need to decant, but best to open it half an hour before service. Founded in 1983, L'Ecole No. 41 is a family-owned winery located in the Walla Walla Valley in Washington State. It produces exceptional wines, considered among the best in the entire state, using organic and sustainable methods. This elegant Vouvray-style Chenin Blanc has been made since 1987, using grapes from old vines at Willard Farms, Upland Vineyard, Snipes Mountain, and Phil Church vineyards, all located in the Yakima Valley and planted in 1979. After hand-picking in the cool morning hours and gentle pressing, fermentation takes place in stainless steel at a controlled temperature. The finished wine is then bottled after clarification and filtration. The result is a fresh, crisp, and aromatic wine that reveals fruity notes of Granny Smith apple, pear, and ripe citrus on the nose, followed by hints of honeysuckle and wet stone. On the palate, it is soft and round, with a creamy texture and excellent concentration. It has bright acidity and a pronounced minerality. It is juicy, broad, and complex, with a long finish that evokes notes of lemon curd and herbs. It pairs deliciously with fish, vegetarian dishes, and roast chicken in lemon sauce.
Old Soul Chardonnay 2024 Old Soul Chardonnay 2024 19.1 GBP Enjoy it now, or cellar for a few more years. No need to decant before serving. Oak Ridge’s Chardonnay is a vibrant, medium-bodied wine, loaded with aromas of yellow apple, lemon zest, pineapple, cream and vanilla. The fruits, which include a 5% splash of Sauvignon Blanc, were harvested from the beautiful region of Lodi, California, nestled between the rugged Sierra Nevada mountains and San Francisco Bay. Oak Ridge’s founder, Angelo Maggio, arrived in California in 1906, migrating from Genova with his wife Louisa. With his first Lodi plantings in 1928, he began a long-lasting family tradition, now continued by grandson Rudy and Rudy’s three daughters. The Maggio’s were just grape farmers until the 1980s, when Rudy took a risk and decided to produce wine under the family name. This delicious, sunny Chardonnay is the result of that life-changing decision. The palate is dry and driven by bright acidity. However, there is also a subtly implied sweetness, thanks to the ripe flavours of sun-soaked fruits, which make it a truly perfect example of Californian Chardonnay. Look for notes of tropical and citrus fruits, underpinned by crème brûlée and freshly baked apple pie. The finish is long and immensely satisfying. Pair this Chardonnay with creamy desserts, seafood, or a roast chicken.
